Summary: The ICBD 2025 conference highlighted the importance of paediatric hypnosis in reducing anxiety among child patients. This technique aids in calming children during treatment, improves cooperation, and ultimately makes the hospital experience more positive. This holistic approach reflects a new awareness of the importance of emotional well-being in the provision of children's healthcare.
Malaysian Society of Clinical Hypnosis (MSCH) Endorses Paediatric Hypnosis Presentation at ICBD 2025
The Malaysian Society of Clinical Hypnosis (MSCH) extends its warmest congratulations and strongest endorsement to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Annapurny Venkiteswaran from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia for her influential presentation at the 7th International Conference on Brawijaya Dentistry (ICBD) 2025 in Malang, Indonesia, held on 1–2 November 2025.
Dr. Annapurny’s session, "Hypnosis in Paediatric Dentistry," shone a critical light on the vital role of Paediatric Hypnosis as a safe, non-pharmacological method for managing patient anxiety and pain. Her contribution reinforces the global shift towards genuinely patient-centred care, particularly for our youngest patients who often experience significant distress during medical procedures.
Advancing Patient-Centred Care
The MSCH recognises the immediate and practical benefits of integrating clinical hypnosis into paediatric treatment protocols. As Dr. Annapurny expertly explained, hypnosis leverages targeted, soothing communication to achieve a state of deep relaxation, effectively acting as a form of mild sedation without the requirement for chemical intervention. This technique is particularly valuable in settings where medical sedation access is limited, offering a practical and highly effective alternative for high-anxiety patients of all ages.
The ability to reduce a child’s fear and enhance their cooperation using only verbal suggestion is a testament to the power of the mind-body connection, and it ensures a more humane and successful treatment outcome.
Celebrating Malaysian Clinical Expertise
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Annapurny Venkiteswaran is a stellar example of the high calibre of clinical hypnosis expertise resident within Malaysia’s academic and medical communities. Her presentation not only elevated the discourse at ICBD 2025, but also further established Malaysia as a thought leader in ethical, evidence-based clinical hypnosis applications within the ASEAN region.
The MSCH is committed to supporting our professionals, and we believe Dr. Annapurny’s work will inspire more clinicians and academics to explore and embrace hypnotherapy as a powerful and practical tool. We commend her dedication to advancing both the science and the compassionate practise of dentistry and clinical hypnosis.
